Although I still don't think *all* of the SC2 story was planned that far in advance, I do now think that the major story arcs were. (And with the years between games, who can blame them if that's the case?) However, I went back and played the BW epilogue at some point and found that much of what I initially disliked SC2 for, was foreshadowed pretty strongly in BW and I had just forgotten about it. I remember thinking some of the SC2 story seemed sort of shoehorned in, as if they hadn't really planned for an ending back when they wrote Brood War. But I was a kid, maybe *everything* was less predictable back then. It just felt less cliche, less predictable. I still like SC:BW's story better, IMHO, but honestly some part of that could be pure nostalgia. Maybe I started paying closer attention or something, I dunno. That said, the SC2 story has grown on me over time - having played each campaign several times over, I've found the story more engaging. I feel SC:BW had the better story and some good twists that legit caught me by surprise (also I was 14 at the time so there's that, lol). That's something I don't think we'll ever see again. Especially since it's also a cliffhanger we spent over a decade sitting on. Good for esports, less good for a fun campaign run, and I'm still a bit annoyed Remastered didn't at least attempt to give some options to ease the mechanical burden of the campaigns.Īlso, BW has one of the ballsier endings for a major game, even for the time. So going back to SC1 is a bit rough since there's mechanics that are a lot more dated. I will say though SCII of course has the MUCH better mission and campaign design, and a lot more small stories that I really enjoy. Whereas in SCII the shift to a major "villain" for each expansion made the conflict largely clear cut with only some small moments of grey. While SC1 had pretty clear cut "good guys" in spite of what people say, most of the rest of the cast were shades of grey and it was picking the lesser of a lot of evils. I enjoy SCII a lot, I love most StarCraft lore, but I have to generally agree the SC1 era is stronger. The love story of SCII also wasn't received all that great, and a lot of people didn't find Amon all that compelling.
Generally people prefer SC1/BW to SCII's story, it's got a lot darker of an atmosphere with a bit of a grimier feel, but not without humor. r/wow /r/diablo /r/hearthstone /r/heroesofthestorm /r/overwatch Same- and similar-topic submissions that exceed 4 per top 25 Promotional submissions that exceed "2 per 1 per 1"ĭuplicate results posts for the same individual match will be removed.
